Random stuff today...

Yesterday I had an evening cardio workout mixed in with resistance bands. Two birds, one stone: I binge-watched episodes of Hell's Kitchen with Gordon Ramsey. For 2 hours I did tons of calisthenics and dancing in between sets of "lifting." Was actually kind of fun, and you don't even need the volume on the show since half of it is bleeped out cussing.

When did they start putting fat people in commercials?

Have never cooked okra, but it's up there with Brussel sprouts in terms of nutrition, so it's on my grocery list. Breakfast was 2 big mangoes, lunch will be 8 oz. of edamame with salt and rice vinegar. Following my Plan B to drop the recent weight increase.

Working from home now, do not have airconditioning (typical of SoCal homes by the beach). Will go for a walk at lunch, since today I won't offend co-workers with sweat or smells. 🥵

Update: Went for a 30 minute walk and did a 30 minute Pilates session that I found on Tubi. For those that want a free workout in their livingroom, there are tons you can search up on demand on your television through Amazon Prime, YouTube, Tubi, etc. My favorites are yoga, Pilates and Barre Method.

I get a lot of inquiries about whether my WFPB (Whole Foods/Plant Based) diet is sustainable, since it's Vegan and lacks processed food like bread and things out of boxes, jars, and cellophane wrappers.

I love new recipes the same as the next person, and I eat different foods every meal. However, I shop at the Farmers Market and in the grocery's produce section out of habit. I don't wander and roam around the center aisles, looking for sugary cereal and boxes of individually wrapped snacks, or ice cream and frozen meals.

Eliminating bread has also eliminated the need for jams, butter, cream cheese, peanut butter, etc. Giving up rice and pasta means more room for the asparagus, Brussel sprouts, sweet potatoes, lentils, beans, and dishes like Ratatouille, Indian/Thai curry, or Caponata (all of which I eat like a dense stew). In other words, I've been replacing the high calorie items with more densely nutritious ones.

If you were trying to quit smoking, would it be easier to cut back gradually or go cold turkey? Which person would have the greater success rate? Which method is healthier?

My cholesterol is down, my waistline is down, I feel good, sleep good, and move good. Without added sugar and chemicals, my moods and energy levels are stable. So yes, WFPB is a sustainable diet for me.

Bumped into an old co-worker yesterday, and they commented on my 50 lb. weight loss.

I'm really embarrassed that I am remembered at that firm as the Fat Employee, the Human Garbage Disposal.

At any given moment, I had a plate of food at my desk, and I grazed all day long on whatever was laid out in the break room. Most of the time it was regular food, but once a month they had Donut Day, and I actually planned my PTO around that Friday smorgasbord.

Cringe.

That firm had around 300 lean & fit employees; I could count the fat ones on 1 hand. I started working there weighing about 120 lbs. and within 2 years I was pushing 180. All the weight came off during Covid Lockdown, when we were sent home and I no longer had access to the employee lunch room. I moved on to my new firm before the old office opened back up, so pretty much no one has seen me since I was a size 16-18.

A good lesson learned about bad habits and resetting. I never want to be that employee again.
