I've been trying to lower my carbs. It has been confusing and not entirely successful. I've got a no carb breakfast down solid, and I even managed a low carb dinner on Sunday night. However, I feel like I just cancel it out with a muffin here and a whole wheat pizza there. The thing about being pre-diabetic, is that I don't have a glucose meter and can't really tell where my blood sugar is.

On the other hand, I finally swam one whole Km today! That's 40 lengths in the YMCA pool. I feel good about that, and I hope I can do it again tomorrow. It took an undue amount of time though. I did it in 50 minutes.

I also haven't weighed in. I'm conflicted about it. The last time I weighed in, I think the scale lied to me. It said I had gone down, but the very next day it was way up to 184. I am now still hovering around here, which is where I began. So really I haven't lost anything. This is frustrating. But I know I won't be able to really change my ways in just two months. I guess I should be happy that I didn't go above my start weight.

I realized my RDI was too high for August, so I set it down to something that suits my level of activity more. I fluctuate between active and totally sedentary.

But all in all, whether I go up or down, at least I'm trying something. When I start to panic about carbs and blood sugar and all that jazz, I try to tell myself that at least I went to the pool and got moving. Maybe that's all I can ask myself for these days. I always tend to make impossible standards for myself and eventually fail at everything.

I just wish this would get going faster. At this rate, it'll take 57 months to complete my journey. But hey, maybe that's how long it takes. As long as I get there.

So last month was supposed to be just a recording of food and exercise to see where I stood if I just exercised but didn't really change my diet. I tried to stay below the the daily recommended intake. It went really well the first few weeks and then tapered off toward the end of the month. Then I had a set back and just recently re-started. I borrowed a Weight Watchers cook book from the library and am trying to glean from it what I can in terms of healthy food etc. I am really at a loss for what I should be eating. There is an astronomical amount of diet information out there and I don't know which way to go. However, now with my various health issues I know I should be doing what I really hate, the dreaded low-carb diet. Oh how I hate lowering carbs! But, being pre-diabetic is pretty scary, and I know I'm gonna have to do it. Has anyone tried the Mayo Clinic diet, and if so, does it work?
