submarinersangel's Journal, 22 Jan 10

Yesterday was my weekly date with my father. Since I am an only child, even at age 24, my father and I are really close. I'm all he has. While growing up, he always made sure I was well fed. He cooked delicious, hearty meals for the two of us. I quickly gained weight. I was 9 years old and weighted 175lbs. I looked like a pumpkin! I also hit puberty at 9 years old and then I started losing weight (also because I was anorexic.) I had low self-esteem throughout high school. The school told me if I didn't eat, I could not play on the basketball team anymore and basketball was more important to me than anything so I started eating. I soon began to realize that as active as I was...I could eat basically anything. So I was comfortable with being 145lbs (and the boys in high school always said I was fat. Grr.)

My weekly dates with dad normally consists us going out to eat. To a restaurant or a fast food place. I was slightly nervous seeing him yesterday because I always order burgers when I go out (because I know what to expect.) When I met up with my dad, we did my laundry at the laundromat (he helped) and I had a lot to do. ($16 worth of laundry - not including drying them!) It felt like a mild workout. Afterwards, we went out this local restaurant and I succumbed and ended up getting a patty melt and fries. I ate everything with 2 glasses of coke. (It kind of felt good. =/ )

Before I went to see my dad, I whipped up a shake. Now, my WEAKNESS is MINT ICE CREAM! So I decided to add 1 cup of 1% milk to the blender, 1 scoop of Slim Fast Chocolate Royal Optima mix, 3/4 cup of Wyman's frozen mixed berries, AND...a few drops of pure mint extract. I was completely satisfied.

Moving on to my Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred challenge, I was sore throughout the day after yesterday morning's workout. Mostly my abs, upper arms, and my back. I woke up this morning after 5 hours of sleep (I need to work on getting more sleep), the only thing that was on my mind is Jillian. I wanted to pop in the dvd again and challenge myself and test my limits today. After a cup of Kix cereal, I popped in the dvd and the first set of jumping jacks I did, I felt slightly lighter. I was able to go through a lot of sets longer and much better than I could the past 2 days. I was stoked! It was a sign of improvement! I also sweat more during today's workout than the previous workouts.

Throughout the work out, my right calf kept burning. I have come to the conclusion that I should stretch a bit more before the work out. I would definitely do the ankle rolls exercise beforehand. (It came in really handy while I played basketball.) I also discovered that when I had to do sit ups or any exercises involving with me having to be on my back and working my abs -- closing your eyes works! I closed my eyes and focused on completing every sit up. It felt rewarding.

I won't be doing the 30 Day Shred during the weekend because my fiancé will be at my place. I would rather do the exercise at peace without having to worry about the ugly facial expressions I would make when I am trying to catch my breath and finish the entire workout and he comes rushing trying to pamper me, haha.

So Jillian, I will see you Monday but in the mean time, I will monitor my calorie intake!
