submarinersangel's Journal, 20 Jan 10

My name is Alycia and I am a 24 year old college student. I am majoring in Human Services and hope to be a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor some day. I will be getting married to my soul mate February 27th of this year. My fiancé is in the Navy and it will be a lifelong occupation. We are currently waiting on his first orders and I believe we will be stationed in Washington state.

My other half Daniel is a health buff and he does weightlifting. He wants to gain weight and I want to lose weight (I weight more than him!) I was never a skinny girl in my entire life. I was always slightly overweight but healthy. In High School, I weight 145 and it was at my best. I was athletic and active. I had curves to die for. When I graduated, I gained weight as I enter a new relationship. When I met Daniel, I was between 175-180 and it has been 8 months and I am a whopping 196!

My heart sank. I knew I gained weight because clothes were getting tighter on me but I couldn't pinpoint why I was gaining weight. I figured it was because I got too comfortable with Daniel and that I hardly even exercise. So with my wedding coming up and a lot of reminiscing of old photos, I decided to jump on the bandwagon and start being more active and watch what I eat.

I personally don't diet. I don't believe in diets but I do believe eating in moderation and watching your portions. Diets are very hard to stick with especially for a person who loves food like me. Hearty food. I LOVE MASHED POTATOES. (dreamily sighs)

Oh yeah, I am an emotional eater. =/

So my new goal is to lose 50 pounds. I hope to reach 145 pounds by August 2010. I am trying to stay within 1200 calories intake (it is HARD. I tend to end up with 1500 calories per day.) I just started Jillian Michael's 30 Day Shred DVD and hope to see some results. I will blog about my progress.

1/19/2009 DAY 1 OF SHRED:

I could not even last more than 5 minutes! I used 5lb dumbbells and could not even complete the push up sets. When I tried to use the dumbbells again, my arms got all wobbly and I couldn't push myself any longer. I am so disappointed that I couldn't go through with it and that I am really out of shape! Has anyone gave up within 5-10 minutes for the first day?

Tomorrow, I will go for canned goods as dumbbells instead using the 5lb ones. I will also try to do something different with the push ups so I can through the entire level 1 work out.

I also need to get some good sports bra. Having double D's at my height and wearing regular underwire bra is a no-no. I also need to get a mat because I tried using a towel and it was hard on my knees when I tried doing the push ups.

This may be day 1 but it is not the end of it. Since I am getting married in 39 days, I will work out 5 days a week from now on. 145 pounds, here I come.

Here is a collage of my weight gain over the years. The last picture I was 175 and I have gained 20 pounds since then mostly in the hips. Oh what I would do to get those curves back I had in 2003.

Don't give up on the exercise! I bought a Yoga vidio with Bob and I couldn't do it either. I backed it us and did one of my easier tapes for a week and then I could tackle Bob. I'm afraid of Jillian. :) Just keep it up and you will feel beautiful on your wedding day!
