I continue to be very frustrated with this site. I've started running outside and cannot find a way of listing these the way I want.
Today, 4/28/17 I did a 3/4 mile run in the street. About 33 minutes. Max heart rate 51bpm; average 125-135. I did a lot of walking. I'm deconditioned from cancer treatments, and so am being very careful monitoring. We'll see if I can improve on this. Body equipment works pretty good. Knees, ankles, hips, lower back, all working as they ought.

Okay. I think I've bottomed-out at 144.7 pounds. So far, thanks to Carlo Bruey of Get Right Fitness, who has guided my nutrition and calorie deficit, I've lost only about 4 pounds of muscle after 20 pounds of fat loss. Right now, I'm taking care of a few workout injuries (rotator cuff), but I think it might be time to kick my calories up and go heavier in the gym. I'm very happy with my success so far -- I'm turning 67 in a couple of months and am wearing size 29 jeans -- and I want to stay on my winning streak. I have a few things to adjust, and then I hope to start putting on a little more muscle mass.

Losing 0.4 kg a Week

I am trying to learn how to drop body fat without losing lean body mass. I'm eating in consultation with the very learned Carlo Bruey of Get Right Fitness, and it has been a great learning experience. My first month, I lost 10 pounds of body fat and gained four pounds of muscle. I've gone from 22% bodyfat to 15%, but I'm lifting heavier weights than ever before. Carlo monitors my macros; he never tells me what to eat. Before I started on FatSecret, I was up to 185 or so. I've most more than 30 pounds, but unfortunately much of that was muscle. The knowledge I'm picking up with Carlo is helping me to gain muscle back. I'm not packing it on, but I'm gaining. And I continue to take off the fat. My weakness is going out to Latin restaurants with my wife, Fleur, and drinking too much wine. But the important thing is to feel like I'm in control of the destiny and well-being of my body.

Losing 0.3 kg a Week
08 July 2016
I recorded a new weigh-in and got a lot of support from people on this site for the drop. Thanks so much, everybody. I can't tell the difference between the Journal and the Forum, and so don't know who is reading this.
I have been a little bi-polar on weight gain or loss. Right now, at 158, I'm down from about 185. Most of that loss has been lean body mass, and I long to put some of it back on. So I oscillate from high to low-cal diets. Finally, I decided to consult a professional and have been meeting with Carlo Bruey of Get Right Fitness. He ran a series of tests -- resting metabolism, BMI. He measured my body fat with calipers and ultra-sound and got a 10-point difference: the calipers put me at 12% body fat, the ultra-sound (which is the most accurate) put me at 22%. So now and for the next several weeks, I'm eating to lose body fat. My first month's loss has taken me under 20%, which takes me out of the overweight category.
I think my macros are visible on my food journal. Right now, I'm eating 120 grams of carbs and protein and 50 of fat, for a total of around 1475 calories a day. So far, I've been pretty good at dialing in those numbers right on target. I'm also taking night classes in Exercise Science with Dr. Anthony Abbott at the Fitness Institute International. These courses, plus working with Carlo, have been a real education for me.
