Still going in the wrong direction, but I know it's because I haven't been completely faithful to keto. This past weekend (holiday weekend) I ate a few things that were carb heavy (mudslide, apple pie), but you know what, it was a bit of a vacation for me and I'm not going to let my diet completely control my life and make me miserable. I'm back on it except for the sushi my wonderful SO brought over last night. So, yeah, I've been cheating a bit, but I'm going to get back on it today and for the next few weeks.
I've had a pseudo-goal of looking thinner for my next college reunion (coming up in September) but maybe that just won't be the case. Maybe I'll just need to find something slimming to wear. And so long as I feel good, nobody should notice or say anything, right? And if they do, it's on them instead of me. :)

I appreciate anyone who reads these, but you really don't need to. I'd like to start taking advantage of this journal-ing thing without bugging too many people. So if I post too much, please scroll on. :) I'd just like to keep track of some of my thoughts and patterns.
So, I'm going to try to do myself a favor and only weigh in every few days. I know weight, especially water weight, can fluctuate and that I shouldn't base my overall progress on the progress I make within the span of a few days necessarily. So, as routine as it was, I'm going to try to just weigh myself every other day instead of every day. Baby steps.
I'm also going to work on forgiving myself a little bit for being overweight (or medically obese). I work in a fascinating job where I'm learning so much about different types of surgeries, and lately we've been doing a lot of work with bariatric, or gastric bypass surgery. I get to sift through success stories every day and I've just been learning about the process and how not-easy it is to get the surgery and revamp your life afterwards. I find it fascinating. I've always been around it because both of my parents have had surgeries to help them lose weight and control their health, and every time I see them, they offer me the same thing. However, I'm going to try putting that off and see if I can't get things under control myself. Right now my BMI is 31, and the guideline says you have to have at least a BMI of 35 (with co-morbid conditions) to qualify. So I'm not at that point yet.
Having said that, I'm also learning about obesity and how your body learns to maintain that weight, even if you try to reduce it. It's more than just willpower; it truly is a disease that is based on a large number of factors. At this point, scientists are still just scratching the surface of what obesity is, it's factors and causes, and how to treat it. I used to have the mindset that people just need to focus on their diet, learn to exercise, and the weight will fall off, but it's not that simple. I'm also not condoning surgery, because I want to avoid that for now, but after seeing so many stories of how it has saved lives, it gives me a whole new appreciation for people who deal with obesity.
Another random thought: I saw my doctor yesterday and he put me on new medication to help deal with the migraines, and also told me that my vitamin D level is very low. So, I'm going to start supplementing that and try out the new meds. Hopefully that will help resolve some of my pain issues.

So, I've been diagnosed with migraines. I feel like it's a little vague, but now I can say it's officially a migraine and not just a headache/stomachache/I hate my life thing. I was also told I have super low vitamin D, so I'll have to start supplementing that as well (on top of my daily vitamin). Anyone have any experience with migraines? I'd be curious to hear how certain foods may make them worse or better? Thank you!
