Yesterday I blew it! Would someone please outlaw Tastykakes? No more shopping immediately after exercise class anymore! LOL!

I'm surprising myself! Since I started this about three weeks ago, I don't think I've missed doing some form of exercising each day, even if it's just stretching. The exercising is getting easier to do too. The water aerobics have always been easy to do, probably since it's fun and with a nice group of folks; but, biking has always been hard for me. Now, my exercise bike doesn't know what to think. It's no longer a coatrack! LOL!
I find that I manage to do more at the bike if I'm not constantly watching the timer, so I cover it up with a towel, turn on the TV and settle in with something - a movie, series or anything interesting (but NOT a cooking show!) - and pedal away. If there isn't anything good on the TV, I pick up a paperback book or magazine and read...anything that keeps my mind occupied while my feet are endlessly rotating. Periodically, I will pick up my small hand weights and do a few lifts and curls with them (commercials and end of chapters are a good spot for this). Before I know it, I've managed to pile on 30-40 minutes when before I struggled to get 15! Yesterday I did a whole hour!
Hmmmm, maybe I should apply the same philosophy to the scale...cover it up and only look at the end of each week...

Okay...going to stop counting days here since I've already lost count...LOL! Suffice it to say, I've been at this now for about two weeks. Had a nice little loss to start things off and have maintained it (baby steps, baby steps!) and have done well so far on keeping up the exercise as well. I'm slowly weeding out the landmines that tended to lurk in the pantry and put them in my husband's hands...not for him to eat, but to portion them out sensibly to me since I obviously have no will power!
I've had a hard time motivating myself to do any exercise on the weekends, but I may have accidently come up with a motivation. My home pro team was having problems today so, to work out MY frustrations in the last quarter, I hopped on my exercise bike...lo and behold, they picked it up and fought on to win the game! So...maybe I should plan on pedaling when the offense is on the field, huh? LOL!

Wow...it's been a week now since I found this website and I can't believe how much it has revitalized me about getting healthy and making wiser choices!
Yesterday was a down day though...must have been all the rain that blew through from Hanna that did it. I didn't even feel like doing my journal that day! Does weather affect anyone else that way? Seems like both me and my husband spent the day just lolling around the house being couch potatoes. I did, at least, manage to log on a half hour on my stationary bike. However, I ruined that by snacking on some peanuts and 2 tablespoons of really rich cactus honey...therefore, I went up a pound :( So...I will stash the honey far, far away back into the depths of my pantry ( thus utilising ye old Jedi out of sight, out of mindtrick) and vow to spend some extra time on the bike today.
Added on a new challenge too, so I had to revise my meal planning for today to fit in all of the fruits and veggies called for in this first week. Today is mostly veggies for me, just one fruit. The green tea mini-challenge might be hard to handle though. Most of the greens I've seen have fairly large amounts of caffeine that could make them hard for me to do in due to my HBP. I do have some green tea capsules that I can take though so maybe I'll substitute them for the fresh-brewed tea. Maybe that way will make it easier to track the caffeine intake.

Day 5: Our smoke detector gave us an unwelcome wake-up call this morning...nothing like a little 5 AM fire alarm to get the heart started and the blood pumping! After the third incident of running all over the house (all three floors) like a smoke-sniffing dog, resetting the panel, reassuring the monitoring company that everything was okay...then listening to it misfire...again(!), they went ahead and notified the fire department. After the firetruck came out (fortunately for my neighbors, no siren!) and checked over things; we disconnected the suspect alarm (thankfully, just one so the others are still functioning) and tried to get back to sleep.
Wonder how I'm going to list THAT exercise in my journal...LOL!
