Good morning! Feeling great and the weight is coming off slowly but surely. it's been a while since I weighed in at 170... My weekly Friday morning health check had good news - and not so good. The good being - obviously - the weight loss but also blood pressure which was a solid 117/73. Not so good? Elevated fasting blood sugar reading which is in the pre-diabetic range at 116. Should be 100 or below. I started doing a more aggressive form of intermittent fasting about 10 days ago, which is referred to as OMAD: one meal a day. So I eat absolutely nothing (just some black tea, a cup or two of black decaf coffee and water) until 5 pm every day, and then I have a mostly whole foods plant-based meal around 6 pm. And then the fast starts again at 7 pm. So about 22 hrs of fasting total. I was expecting my fasting blood glucose level to drop below 100 first thing in the morning, but for some reason it has actually gone up. I know there is an explanation out there somewhere, I just don't know enough about the 'dawn effect' which I know can cause this. More research needed... Also I have been slacking off with exercising lately due to work demands, will get back on the bike for longer rides. Will report back next Friday... Wishing you all every success on your diet, weight and health journey!!

Not much of a loss but to be expected with the holidays... Been consistent with the workouts, combination of daily morning mountain bike ride (90 minutes, abut 15 miles) starting at 6 am. Even here in Houston it is cold and dark, the sun only comes up around 7. Fortunately the trail on which we ride is 95% out of any traffic, only first half mile is on public road/sidewalk. Also doing daily 30 to 35 minutes walking on treadmill, hope to step that up as I recover from plantar fasciitis. Happy Holidays! PS: the sourdough bread is one of the reasons I am not at my optimal weight, gotta take a vacation from that stuff... But so good.

Two meals per day and total calories near 1500/day are having the desired effect; predictably. Frankly, I find it easier to do just two 'solid' meals per day rather than 3 light ones. Really no problem to skip breakfast, to make it an intermittent fast of about 16 hours. Of course, it will take discipline to maintain this through the holidays, but I'm 100% in. Not sure if the pic will come up, it's a vegetable tian (version of ratatouille) which we liked because of the nice texture. Served it with some fresh corn on the cob and a side of no-oil refried beans.

Had my annual physical a couple of weeks ago and overall good. For someone my age, lol. However blood work not ideal, with both blood sugar (A1C level) and lipids (total cholesterol and LDL) being borderline or slightly elevated. Having another blood test done in 3 months, early March 2024, to see if I can get them down significantly, without medication. Will up the exercise levels - ordered a treadmill which will be delivered in a couple of weeks. Also will be increasing the period of intermittent fasting between dinner and 'brunch' from around 12 to closer to 16 hours. Going to take some discipline.

Weekly Friday wellness check. Slightly down on weight; restricted calories kicking in. Blood pressure was 112/77 which is best in a long time. Fasting blood sugar 100; previous 2 weeks it was 87 and 88. The test strips are near expiration date, will get new ones. Apparently the enzyme on it breaks down in time. I read you should not squeeze too hard to get a drop of blood to check. It can affect the reading. Have a great weekend!
