is it possible to drink too much water? how do i know if i do? i've heard from several sources that you should drink half your weight in water. Yes it is possible to drink too much water but most people don't unless they have diabetes insipidus.

yes it's possible. when I used nicotine pouches I was thirsty constantly and drank a gallon of more every day. had miserable cramps after gym sessions. started putting k+ and magnesium citrate in my water. really helped when I quit back on Christmas and downsized to half a gallon a day.

Yes, it is possible to drink too much water the average person doesn't typically do so but it is completely possible. Many years ago when I had my first child (Ayla) I followed my doctor's advice who was not a lactician consultant he didn't mean any ill advice he was just following what he had been told which is that women who are lactating should drink lots of water. He had not been trained for breastfeeding mothers and had not received any recent training on babys at all. My children all breastfed once an hour which was very tiring and his advice was to drink at least one glass of water per breastfeeding...fast forward to I drink at least one glass of water every breastfeeding and landed myself in the hospital as a stroke risk when I passed out flat on the floor in the middle of class during my methods class during college. Apparently I had gotten rid of all of my electrolytes and almost had a stroke Whoops 🤭 Who knew you can indeed drink too much water! 🤷 Once again my regular doctor meant no ill will he simply was not used to a breastfeeding mother particularly whose children fed often and in large amounts in addition I've always drink lots of water so when I drink a glass of water I don't drink 4 to 6 oz I drink 8 to 10 oz or more compounding the issue. In addition I don't drink items with electrolytes a lot and I typically avoid things with salt and other things like that and because I was trying to be super healthy I was avoiding a lot of the things that would have given me electrolytes and helped me out with the issue, ironic huh. 🙄

For most people though the real concern is not drinking too much water but drinking too much water too quickly. Particularly if they're dehydrated or very hot and so they get a large amount of liquid after being dehydrated or too hot and then they drink it very quickly then they can shock their system. That's when most people are going to be in danger. think of a very hot horse foundering when they come to a body of water after a race that kind of thing...
