rbrear's Journal, 20 Aug 11

I was diagnosed as Type 2 diabetic yesterday morning. Since this revelation, I've followed somewhat closely a sample diabetic's meal chart by WebMD. Before dusk, I also walked a little over 30 min. at as brisk a pace as I could; I traveled 1.5 miles. I did not feel hungry when I went to bed or when I awakened this morning. Not a habitual breakfast eater, I nevertheless ate most foods allowed in the WebMD diet this morning to hopefully prevent any cheating. You see, the last time I tried to lose weight, I cheated twice with treats and didn't consistently reduce my portions much at all. I actually gained weight. that bummed me out. It's good that the WebMD diet allows two sensible snacks a day. I ate one string cheese snack last night as I warmed up my leftovers to eat.
Today, I contentedly, proudly entered my 1st day of physician-mandated dieting & exercising. But after exercising and shopping, I'd grown really hungry, so when I arrived home & unpacked groceries,I wolfed down the cup of vegetable soup I didn't have available at lunchtime. That soup, a heaping salad plate of salad, and the 16 oz. of water settled down my appetite while my dinner cooked. Will I snack on 3 cups of popcorn before bedtime? I kind of hope I can resist, but even if I go for it, I'll still be comfortably below my allowed 1600 calories. [pats myself on the back] SO FAR I am doing better than I think I ever did on my prior weight-loss attempt a few months ago!

OOPS...Just noticed that I ate around 200 too many carbs today. I focused too exclusively on calories, plus I gave in to the thought of a whole 5-6 oz. fillet of roughy instead of the allowed 3 oz.
