Had strawberries for breakfast and lunch yesterday & today, 2 lbs. each day, and am in hog heaven. You know when they perfume your whole kitchen that they're going to taste like candy. 🤗💖🍓🍓🍓

Tried out a new springtime recipe last night that I found on Williams & Sonoma's website for an asparagus salad. Pickle a diced red onion in red wine vinegar, blanch asparagus and chop into bite-sized pieces, add to a bowl of raw sugar snap peas and torn up mint. Add the marinated onion. Toss the whole salad with a dressing made of red wine vinegar, olive oil, minced garlic, salt & pepper. Took less than 15 minutes and tasted divine.

Tonight I'm roasting potatoes, leeks and Brussel sprouts with rosemary and garlic cloves, tossed with olive oil and salt & pepper. Having with a bowl of cherry tomatoes.

Fine-tuning the July goal, so instead of just reducing total cholesterol from 216 down to 190, am also including reducing my LDL from 130 down to 70. That's a bit of a reach for me, and I'd be happy if I can just get the Total below 200 and the LDL to under 100.

Sounds delicious! You just reminded me I have fresh asparagus in the refrigerator. 😋

I was just looking for recipes that use mint, since it grows so fast and hearty in my patio garden. I used enough that it was basically a 3rd vegetable in the salad. Usually I fry or roast asparagus, so the quick blanch way was a nice departure from my routine. Powerhouse vegetable in terms of protein and potassium. I ate the whole 1 pound bunch (minus the snapped off end bits).

I usually roast my asparagus too, but I really like it raw with a light vegetable dip. Jicama is another favorite for veggie dip. 😋

Any other hints for lowering cholesterol. Mine is a bit high. My Doc put me on medication that has undesirable side effects.

Sugarplum, oatmeal with cholestacare and ChocoNuvo squares. I'm very picky about chocolate. These are very good :-) Dr. pleased with results, family ecstatic!

Sugarplum, I saw your post asking for advice on lowering cholesterol. Your settings don't allow anyone to comment on your postings. The suggestions above are the only thing I did different for 3 months. All of family are normal levels now. Hope this helps.

Wow good job on the reducing cholesterol using the diet. Good achievement. I like the sound of that salad. This is a great time to find cheap asparagus

Sugarplum, I love Whole Foods. I'd recommend oatmeal (without added sugar) anytime. This is the only thing I know had a definite positive result on myself, family, parents, friends. I got it from ProCapsLabs in Nevada USA. Ultimate Oatmeal with CholestaCare and Essential C. I normally don't recommend like this, but it made such a huge difference in levels. Hope this helps.

@Liv -- my current levels are 216 total, and 130 LDL. I haven't reduced anything yet. The 190 Total and 70 LDL are GOALS 🤪 But yes, I'm working hard on eliminating saturated fats and upping fiber and exercise.

@Sugarplum: Exercise will help immensely with lowering your LDL. But to really kill things, you have to ditch the saturated fat, which is found primarily in dairy (milk, cream, cheese, icecream) and red meat (bacon, sausage, beef).
