I think I'm finally getting a handle on getting my carbs down, and my protein up. These Total Lean Lean Shakes are helping. I had been struggling with this since I started this weight loss journey. I love steamed veggies, baked veggies, boiled veggies and just veggies in general. The veggies I am partial to has a fair amount of carbs. Not that its bad, mind you. You do need carbs in order to function. You can't go completely carb free.

I have been trying to get my protein level up, and my carb level down, so that I am having more protein at the end of the day than carbs. I try to avoid sweet snacks, potatoes, rice, white bread and pasta. Mostly either sugar or starch carbs. Its hard to avoid sugar carbs in fruit, but you can offset them with a nice protein to go with it. I had picked up some cubed watermelon and cantaloupe the other day, so thats what I've been having for lunch. Today I added that fruit to one half cup serving of cottage cheese, a one ounce slice of colby cheese, and a Lean shake. Nice, filling lunch!! That will keep me until I figure out what to make for supper!!

I love cottage cheese, even though it can make me a little gassy later in the day. I am following my own version of a low carb diet. I am just avoiding the starchy carbs,, not cutting them out completely. I will still eat them, if I go out to eat, or at a friends, I just make sure to eat in moderation, and mindfully, and then get on with my diet plan as usual. I don't beat myself up for eating it. I know that satisfying a craving is important when you are trying to lose weight. I have bounced back and forth, and finally learned, that you give in to that craving, but in a controlled way! If you are craving a chocolate milkshake, go get one, just get a small, or childs serving, take your time drinking it, and savor every sip. You get your fix, you don't go overboard and you can then get back on your diet and continue!.

I think the key to satisfying that craving is to eat/drink the particular thing slowly. If you have to, close your eyes, and try to identify the flavors in it and how they feel on your tongue. The longer you take to eat/drink it, the faster you get full, and satisfied.. Basically it is mindful eating. When you are distracted, you tend to eat more than you intended. That used to happen to me a lot. I love to read, and I would munch on cheez-it crackers, or chips. The next thing I knew, the bag or box or bowl full was gone, and I was still hungry!!

I try hard to put my fork or spoon down in between bites. I have gotten better at not being distracted by eating in front of the tv, or computer or a book. I just had a conversation the other day with an acquaintance. I was telling them how I was losing the weight, and they said "Thats too hard!! I couldn't do that!!" Losing weight to me is about the same as a battle. You have to maneuver, and fight, and plan every move you make. It is not easy by a long shot. Anything worth having is worth working or fighting for.

I have to go take care of some things, like vacuum sealing the meat I bought and getting it in the freezer. Have a great day everyone!!

I instantly thought prosciutto wrapped cantaloupe. It contributes protein and tastes wonderful with that particular fruit. The downfall is it is one of the higher calorie meats and packs a lot of fat.

That sounds really good 2MC. The calories wouldn't be a problem as long as I stay within 1200 to 1800 calories. One thing I don't worry about is the fat content, unless it is a highly processed item, and it is something like hydrogenated vegetable oils, I steer clear. I use butter, or coconut oil to cook with, instead of shortning, or corn or vegetable oils.
