I have started to watch what I was eating when I hit the big 300. I was at 302, the heaviest in my life. I was having some issues with my breasts, (they were getting to the point I couldn't find bra's to fit). I went to see a plastic surgeon for a reduction.

He basically told me I needed one, but I was too heavy, and I would end up with complications. I also have COPD, which is where the complications come in, He told me it was a 7 hr surgery, and with my weight and breathing problems, he could guarantee that I would get severe pneumonia.

Some more back story...I have osteoarthritis, and fibromyalgia along with emphysema and chronic bronchitis. One of my pain pills wasn't really working, so I stopped taking it. I lost 10 pounds! So...part of my problem was my meds, and all the steroids I had to take when I would get sick...

I know what I have to do, and what I should eat...it was just portion control....mine was out of control. My surgeon suggested a lap band...but I didn't qualify...I needed to have a BMI of +40 for 5 yrs, and be a diabetic.

Somehow, through all these denials, I managed to flip a portion control switch in my brain. I can't even think of eating the portions I used to!!! So...with the bariatric center saying no...I asked my PC doc what else could I do??

He put me basically on a low carb diet and gave me phentermine.
We'll see how well this works. I am hoping that the combination will give me the strength to keep going!!!

Also, with having COPD, it is hard to do any typical exercises....I do best in the water!! I discovered some exercises that I can do in a pool, that won't get me out of breath, and will give me the exercise I need to keep somewhat flexible and mobile. My only problem at this point is being able to afford the gym rates for 3 days a week. I hope to rectify that soon!!!
