mars2kids's Journal, 18 Jun 13

We got home after 10 and to bed around 11 last night, so no 5 a.m. workout for me this morning and I won't have time to do a workout this evening because of baseball. I should get to bed earlier tonight, so I should be able to get it done tomorrow morning. I didn't workout yesterday either because I was resting my foot, and today it isn't as sore, so that's a good sign. I did get about 1 1/2 hours of gardening in, so that was good.

Only 5 games left total. I'm ready for the season to be done. Last night my daughter's coach wasn't there and the coach that filled in was all about negative reinforcement instead of positive, except for to her daughter of course. So those poor girls left that game feeling terrible and they were all complaining saying they were losers. Poor kids. They need a confidence boost, not to be told they are losers the whole game by the coach. After this season neither of my kids is going to want to play ball next year. I know the coaches are volunteers, but we have an over abundance of people wanting to coach, so if they don't really want to do it, let somebody else.

Enough ranting. It feels like I've complained a lot lately, so I'm going to try to quit complaining and look at the positive. 3 positive things: I'm healthy, I've got a great family, and I have a good job.

Have a Happy Tuesday!

I don't know what it is about baseball/softball, but negative attitude from coaches seems to happen a lot. I know there are good ones out there, but I had a horrid coach in high school, and now my nephew doesn't even want to play anymore because of his.

Mars, great to hear that your foot feels better! Sometimes a bit of rest for an injury does wonders. As far as the substitute coach that you mentioned, it's really a shame when they are so negative and exhibit favoritism towards their own children that it makes your kids not want to continue playing ball! My son had a sub coach like that also, when he was first starting out and experimenting to see which sport he liked the most when he was a kid. He's a natural swimmer, and really used to enjoy it. He was thrown into the pool by the sub coach (literally) one practice...because he was cold, and had asked if he could please keep his t-shirt on... Practices had never really been fun, due to this sub coach treating it like work, and this was the last straw. My son never went back--and dislikes swimming to this day. He never showed interest in joining any other team sport, either... I hope that you and/or several of the other parents mention something to tne head coach regarding the severely low moral when the sub coach was there...so hopefully it wouldn't happen again. I know that can be a difficult thing to do,but it's important (my opinion).

Raven- Last night one of the board members for the league was there and he actually did talk to her about her "coaching" and was saying that he's had complaints about the regular coach too, so I'm guessing they won't be coaching next year. Kaysea- Only five games left! :)

Mars, if resting made your pain smaller, maybe that's what you need. Why don't you rest your foot a little longer? You can do sit ups, stretching, yoga, arm exercises...

Mars, yay! I'm glad the league board was made aware of the situation, and thanks for sharing that! Now here's hoping the board does the right thing and kicks them to the curb...so to speak. Kaysea, ARGH, how I loathe the mothers or fathers that think calling someone (especially their own child!) fatty or the like is the best way to motivate them!! How can these people (I use that term loosely) not see how it's hurting and negatively impacting that child's life!?!

Re Becca- I think you're right. I think the rest of the week will be yoga, gardening (which I can sit for), abs, maybe some upper body workout, and I may be able to get some swimming in this weekend. I'm just stubborn. I know though if I let this go on without resting it will get worse, and if I'm in a walking boot I will be even more limited. Raven & Kaysea- Yeah, parents who call their own kids degrading names are ridiculous. Thank goodness everyone who goes to our games seems to be supportive, with the exception of that coach. I used to tell my son he's skinny, but stopped even doing that because I felt like if I tell him he's skinny and not my daughter will she feel like I don't think she's skinny. And I don't want my kids to feel like they should be skinny or have any body image issues because I do or don't call them that. I may just be overthinking it.

I had a gym teacher call be a fat cow in front of the whole class when we were running the mile. I got even though, it took me exactly gym class + his lunch period to walk it. Needless to say he never did it again. However my mother has said it even though denies she ever called me fat. But she has even to this day shipping is always pushing me to diet. My husband told me to ignore her and it seems to work for him. Since I started doing that, I have started to lose weight. Go figure.
