So far the week is not off to a good start. My shoulder has been hurting for over a week and last week I was just pushing through because I've had shoulder pain before and it usually just goes away. Well, now my shoulder hurts and the pain runs down my back, so I chose to take a break from exercise today. I don't want to stop now, but the pain has gotten to a point that I'm not sleeping well and aggravating it probably isn't the best thing. I may try to do my workout tomorrow morning and just not do any of the push-ups or planks, but there are a lot of those. I don't want to go to the doctor for it, so I'm hoping it just goes away. I can handle a lot of pain but simple things this morning like brushing my hair and hanging up the phone hurt, so I'm taking that as a hint to take it easy.

This week really starts our busy schedule. My son has soccer games 3 days this week, and we have middle school orientation for my daughter on the 1 night he doesn't have soccer. Then next week they both start baseball/softball, so we will have games Mon thru Thurs every week until the end of June. My daughter's games that go from 8-10 p.m. will be a killer for me, and she's got 3 or 4 before school gets out, so she's going to be tired too. At least they don't have games on the same night so we can watch them both play.

Well, enough rambling on from me today. I hope everyone else's week is off to a good start!

Okay, so one of the things I had to learn on my own (as you are now) is when you feel pain, stop. Don't continue to push forward, because as you now know, you will make it worse before it gets better. Dr MightyFull here - in my opinion (do take it for what its worth), as a soon to be 44 year old in a few months, I've learned the hard way that I cannot push my body through the pain like I used to be able to do. Listen to your body. If it crys out, stop. Don't work that part of your body -- no planks, no pushups, no pull ups (especially if it hurts) -- until your body can heal itself. Gentle stretching - yes. Notice I said "gentle." Do you have the P90x yoga dvd? Focus on all the moves that do not work your shoulders in a push/pull fashion. There are plenty of other exercises you can do while waiting on your shoulder to heal. I've found that before bedtime- applying aspercreme, icy hot, vicks or mentholadum to sore areas and rubbing in the ointment, cover with a tshirt or sweatshirt and go to sleep. This has helped. However, I have learned that I cannot apply any of those items to my knees because they will burn all night and it keeps me awake....so weird. Anyway, if you have your Turbo Fire, don't do the arm moves. You can still get a good workout....and you're gonna forget, but you will quickly be enlightened by your shoulder if its not happy. Have a great week and hope you get better soon!

I know, this isn't the first time I've had shoulder pain, but it's probably the worst I've ever had it. It's just hard to slow down once you're finally in a routine. I didn't think about the P90X yoga, but that would be a good one to use, I'm glad you mentioned that. I did get Turbo Fire on Saturday, but I was going to finish out my last week of Insanity before I started it. I may just finish out this week with some yoga and try the Turbo Fire next week if I'm feeling better, with NO arm moves if possible for the first week. This is just different pain than I've had before, so I'm hoping for one that my arthritis hasn't attacked my shoulder and that I won't have to make a trip to the doc. Thanks for your words of wisdom!! Sometimes you just need to hear it from somebody else for the reality of life with aches and pains to sink in.
