Well, I guess I should add an update to what has been going on here. I had surgery on 4/1. I had my barium swallow on 4/9 which showed no leaks--yeah!! They removed my drain on that same day---boy did that hurt! About a week later, I noticed some redness around one of the incisions with a hardened area. I think what happened is that I developed a small hematoma (blood collection) that caused a cellulitis (infection in my skin). I went in to see the surgeon and they placed me on some antibiotics. I've been on the antibiotics for 2 days now and I still am not seeing any improvement. Things aren't getting worse either. I'll call the doctor again on Monday if things aren't improved. There is a chance that they may have to open that incision back up and evacuate the hematoma to get this to clear up. I have a tendency to bruise easily and have had 3 hematomas prior to this on my legs. Seems like I always develop cellulitis, but it usually clears with antibiotics. Other than this infection issue everything is going fine. I'm still eating pureed food, but next week I start of soft foods--yeah!! I miss fresh veggies, but I have to wait until I'm on regular food before I can start eating that kind of thing. I don't feel hungry anymore. I feel thirsty more than anything and drink quite a bit of water. I've never been much of a water drinker in the past, but that seems to be what I want now. I tend to crave meat and veggies. I see sugar filled things and have no desire for them because I know they will make me sick and I hate being sick. It's been rather easy staying on track so far. One problem that has developed is my medicine causing me to feel nauseous and it never did before. I tried 3 different multivitamins and all made me feel sick. I finally found one that didn't and it is the gummy vitamins. I'm off my blood pressure medicine and some of my other medicine doses have decreased, so I am happy about that. I wish this infection would not have developed, but hopefully the antibiotics will take care of it.
