366to266's Journal, 12 Jan 13

I am toying with an idea.

Alternate days of high fat protein-only zero carb with vegetarian days, in which I eat only 1,000 calories of veggie soups, green vegetables, fruits, low fat yoghurt and mixed salads.

The reason for not mixing the two diet plans on the same day (i.e. Atkins Owl) is that I have such terrible problems with insulin. The presence of insulin in my system combined with a high calorie diet is what has made me so fat.

A high fat diet 7 days a week is highly calorific, and I get no vegetables or fruit. I eat about 2,000 calories a day on high fat.

A low fat diet 7 days a week is deficient in fat and protein, and leaves me extremely hungry and unable to stop nibbling (my body's search for nutrition?)
I eat about 1,000 calories a day on low fat.

I think that insulin wise it would be OK because on the veggie days, when my insulin is high, I am not consuming more than 1,000 calories, and on the high fat, 2000-calorie days my insulin is low, so I would not store those calories as bodyfat.

The possibility of this diet working is dependent entirely upon how fast my insulin levels reduce after a high carb day. As I have no way of measuring that, I will have to go entirely by my weight loss or gain.

Do those home glucose monitoring systems work for your condition?

No, apparently they are calibrated for high blood glucose. But there isn't anything I could do even if I knew my readings. Just need to keep my insulin low, which means eating as few carbs as possible.

Ahh - ok. I always wondered because my grandmother always took insulting shots at random intervals but never tested. My husband takes pills and tests. Just wondering how it all works as one of the reasons I'm doing this is my lab was high blood sugar but eating right has helped so far. Have a good day and take care of you!
