Well, I finally went to the gym on Wednesday. I called a friend to help motivate me and she was very instrumental in getting me to go. I worked out in the pool for about 2 hours--swimming and doing exercises in the pool. While I was working out, I thought that I was wasting my time because I didn't feel like I was working at all. It was too easy. Well, let me tell you that later that evening when I was going to bed the muscles started telling me just how much working they had done. I ended up having to take some ibuprophen for muscle soreness. Well, tonight I went to the gym and decided to work on the machines instead of in the pool. I prefer to work on the machines when I'm able to. Well, I thought I would be able to do more than I did, but I think it's too soon to workout outside of the pool right now. I worked out for about 30 minutes and I barely made that. I worked on the eliptical machine for 15 minutes and then the recumbant bike for 15 minutes. My back started to hurt while I was on the eliptical machine and that is the reason why I switched to the bike. I think I'll stick to the pool for right now to protect my back and knees. Once I lose more weight then I'm hoping I'll be able to work on the machines in the future. After the gym, I went grocery shopping, so that gave me some more exercise.

I saw the dietician today and I have some more goals to work on. I've been decreased to a 1400 calorie diet. This will be the last decrease in calories. I also am supposed to exercise 3 times per week and chew my food 15-20 times. This is in preparation for surgery, but also the chewing slows down the eating process and helps with digestion.

Congrats on making it to the gym. Getting started can be the hardest step. I' m glad you are listening to your body, mucles pain is usually good but joint pain is bad. I had to lose over 50 pounds before I could start even doing simple things areound the house and even now if my back or knees start to hurt I stop what I'm doing.

I think working out in the pool is excellent for you right now. You are burning up calories and it's less painful...so proud of you. FOL is right... just getting started is hard, but you can make this a habit. Keep on trying. Hugs!
