So I learned something cool about fiber today! Before, the only thing I knew about fiber is that it helps with digestion and constipation and whatnot. But it also helps with keeping cholesterol low! So fiber cannot be absorbed or digested so it is really only useful in the gi tract. It does help with smooth digestion, feeling fuller, slow absorption and all that but when eating a soluble fiber (able to dissolve in water) and a fatty protein together is a good pair. For example, eating beans and steak. Both proteins yes but the beans contain fiber which would bind with the cholesterol in the meat durring digestion. Since fiber cannot be absorbed it takes the cholesterol with it all the way through the gi tract and it never gets into the body! I find that really cool!! So women are supposed to eat about 25 grams of fiber per day (men about 38g) so I should increase my finger intake!! I just really like learning anything about nutrition :) makes me happy!!
