Congrats on the loss! Way to go for renewing your resolve to stick to your plan. I am sure you will be able to sail through the birthday party unscathed. Adopting chickens sounds like fun. I know they deserve a break after being caged for so long. Enjoy your soup and have a great day!

Great job on the loss! It sounds like you know what to do when heading to get pizza. Half the cheese is a great idea! Happy birthday to your son! Birthday parties for the partents are usually a big blur. Remember to drink water throughout the day. How fun chickens- do you have some already?

We dont' have any chickens yet - these will be our first three!!! It's very exciting! I do have a friend who keeps chickens and turkeys too.
Sapphireocean -- battery hens are chickens that are kept cooped up in cages, in terrible condidtions for most of their lives. This is how farmers produce very cheap eggs. The hens are stood in cages, six to a cage. They fight over food and cannot move. They are kept in artificial 24 hour light and therefore lay eggs constantly. This is the only way that farmers can produce eggs as cheaply as consumers want to buy them. We always buy free range eggs, and the tide is turning that more and more people are doing the same.
The battery hens, when they get older, start to produce fewer eggs. At this point they are sent to slaughter. However, there is a charity the bhwt that works with the farmers who go in and rescue as many hens as they can rehome....that is where ours are coming from. When we pick them up they will probably be in a bit of a state - feathers missing and not in good condition. They will never have seen the sky even....they will get better though and will still lay eggs too.....I'll try to post some photos when we get them :)
