sliMer's Journal, 30 Jul 07

Awfully long first journal entry.. I know they're public, but it's my journal so that doesn't matter right? :P

So, this is my first day doing Atkins Induction 100%. I started cutting sugar months ago and then last Thursday decided to do Atkins, but had no real info on it. I got a little from this site, but over the weekend picked up three different Atkins books from family and friends. Turned out Thurs/Fri I was constricting a lot of carbs, but not enough for induction, and then Sat/Sun I was on target for carbs, but made the mistake of eating a serving of fruit each day. I also had some difficulty eating at my fiance's parents house and was tempted into a rib with a sauce of unknown origin. So, although I'm counting my Atkins as starting Thursday, I'm only considering Induction starting from now. I have a lot of weight to lose so I will probably stay on induction more than the two weeks.

So far, except for the fruit, think I've done okay. I'm also happy to see that only net carbs are counted, which I was confused about after perusing this site. This is especially good as I take 4-8 carb grams from my fiber supplement daily, but it has no net carbs.

One of my goals right now is to stop weighing myself everyday. It's so tempting and I really did have a good reason to yesterday and today. Yesterday I weighed myself because Friday I'd been told I weighed 279 (I say 280 on the weight history because the nurse flubbed it a little). Well, I thought surely something was wrong with their scale, as a few months ago I weighed 286, so I re-weighed myself Friday and my scale agreed with theirs! Well, Sunday I got to thinking it still must be a fluke, so I weighed again and I'd gone down! Today, as my first official day of induction, I've weighed myself again. I am going to try my best not to weight until Sunday. I think I may ask my fiance to keep the scale in his car. Or maybe I'll take the batteries out. Still.. it is nice seeing the numbers go down.

Must work on getting sugar out of the house. My fiance and I have agreed to keep all sugary items in the garage food cabinet so I don't have to see them every day. We're eventually going to just phase out the sugar (he wants to lose weight to and just generally eat healthily, but his eating habits have mirrored mine since we got together and he's greatly upped his sugar intake and put on weight; I'm hoping just through my dieting he'll lose weight too-- he's been really happy about all the nice [low carb] meals I've been making!), but it would be a waste to throw everything away. Also, I've spoken to my fiance about it and he said he's sorry and will try better, but he hasn't really been helping matters-- it was frustrating me that he wants me to lose the weight so badly, for health reasons, but he was kinda teasing me about food. I tried to explain to him that no, one cookie is not alright. And he said stuff like 'Guess I'll have to eat this whole box of Golden Grahams by myself'. And I'd conveniently forgotten I'd even bought them. He said some of his slips are genuine mistakes (like asking if I wanted taco bell) and its just going to take him awhile to get used to things. He also has a bad habit of picking at my food, which has always really upset me on diets like Weight Watchers where everything is portioned. Now it's not so bad, but I've tried to explain to him not to pick at my carbs, which I've measured out carefully. Anywho.

Thanks! I actually plan on picking some up today. :) I definitely do want to know that my body is burning fat, so that'll be helpful. I know most of my weight loss is probably water so far, but it still feels good and I feel thinner. Good for you for hitting purple!
